Duke "Weekend Warrior" Fan Experience

I am late getting this blog post out but here it is. I have been blessed to have been to countless Duke basketball and Duke football games in my life. I also live in Virginia just over two hours away from Duke and have spent countless hours on the road traveling to see the teams I support. In my years talking with Duke fans, I realize many come to see Duke basketball and football from all over the United States and especially the East coast. Many of these fans may only have one opportunity to take a road trip to travel to Durham to see a game.
With that said every year when the basketball schedule finally gets released, I quickly look at the dates to see if Duke basketball and Duke football ever perfectly line up to play back to back dates any weekend that season. Sometimes we get it and sometimes we don't.
Well in less than two weeks Duke fans will have an opportunity to do what I call the Duke "Weekend Warrior" Fan Experience. On Friday November 11th Duke basketball will play USC Upstate at 6:30 PM in Cameron Indoor Stadium. The next day (November 12th) Duke football will play Virginia Tech at Wallace Wade Stadium at 12:00 PM. What a perfect weekend to see the two major sports of basketball and football play games on back to back days.
Duke basketball fans can get on the ticket waitlist for Duke basketball games by going to GoDuke.com clicking on tickets and then Men's Basketball and then follow the directions from there. Duke football fans can still get tickets to the Virginia Tech football game by going to GoDuke.com clicking on Football and then follow the directions from there.
You could spend a Friday night in Cameron Indoor Stadium with the Cameron Crazies watching the second regular season game of the Scheyer era and then the next day spend a Saturday afternoon watching Duke football continue its exciting season in the Elko era.
It will be Military Appreciation Day that Saturday November 12th at Wallace Wade Stadium. There will be tributes throughout the game as well as the All-Veteran Parachute team jumping into the stadium at halftime - per Duke Sports Information.
For the weekend warriors considering coming down for this weekend, I am not the guy who knows which hotels to recommend, but I did reach out to my buddy Josh Cox who runs the Section 17 podcast for recommendations for restaurants for Duke fans to check out. Josh gave the following list of restaurants (in no particular order) to check out.
- The Q Shack
- Dame's Chicken and Waffles
- M Sushi
- Nana Steak
- Cosmic Cantina
I myself have been to The Q Shack and Cosmic Cantina listed above and have really enjoyed the food at both restaurants. I appreciate Josh giving the restaurant recommendations for this blog post. Be sure to check out the Section 17 podcast for awesome Duke football content wherever you get your podcasts as well as follow Josh and the Duke Football Talk crew on Twitter at @DukeFBTalk.
The weekend of November 11th - 12th looks to be an exciting weekend for fans to see Duke basketball and football play in one weekend. If you live a couple hours or more away from Durham.. this could be the perfect weekend warrior road trip experience.
