Jon Scheyer is Not Messing Around: A Brutal Out-of-Conference Schedule Awaits

Duke Basketball recently dropped its 2025–26 out-of-conference schedule, and one thing is clear: Jon Scheyer is not messing around. The Blue Devils are embracing a play anybody, anywhere mentality, and the results are staggering. How about four games against teams that made last year’s Elite Eight?

Over the dog days of summer, as game dates trickled out, fans and media alike began circling matchups on the calendar. Now that the full out of conference schedule is here, there’s no doubt: this slate will test Duke early and often.

Here’s a breakdown of the non-ACC schedule so far:

Duke vs. UCF (Exhibition) – Durham, NC – 10/21/25

Brotherhood vibes to start the season. Johnny Dawkins — whose jersey hangs in Cameron’s rafters — brings his UCF team to Durham for an exhibition. Expect plenty of emotion and applause as Dawkins returns home.

Duke at Tennessee (Exhibition) – Knoxville, TN – 10/26/25

Rick Barnes’ teams are always physical, and this will be a strong early test. Duke fans certainly haven’t forgotten the 2023 NCAA Tournament loss to Tennessee in Scheyer’s first season — when a young Blue Devils squad ran into an experienced Vols team. Tennessee is fresh off an Elite Eight run, and while it’s technically “just an exhibition,” this one has the feel of a top-25 matchup in late October.

Duke vs. Texas – Charlotte, NC – 11/4/25

Talk about coming out swinging. Duke opens the regular season in Charlotte against Sean Miller’s Texas squad. The Longhorns will be hungry after a disappointing First Four exit last March, while the Blue Devils will be looking to make a statement. Charlotte has been good to Duke — remember, it’s where they cut down the nets at the ACC Tournament back in March. Both programs have plenty to prove, and neither will want to stumble out of the gate.

Duke vs. Western Carolina – Durham, NC – 11/8/25

I always love when Duke schedules in-state opponents, and this Saturday matchup in Cameron should bring out plenty of local buzz. Hopefully tip-off lands just right — a few hours apart from the 3:30 kickoff of Duke Football at UConn — so fans can pack Cameron for hoops and then roll right into Blue Devil football on TV. Clear your Saturday plans, Duke fans… this day could possibly shape up to be an all-day Duke sports celebration.

Duke at Army – West Point, NY – 11/11/25

A special trip for Duke as they visit Mike Krzyzewski’s old stomping grounds. Coach K captained Army as a senior and later coached the Black Knights from 1975–80 before beginning his historic run in Durham. A meaningful matchup that ties Duke’s past to its present.

Duke vs. Indiana State – Durham, NC – 11/14/25

Friday night hoops in Cameron against Indiana State. Here’s a fun nugget: Terre Haute, home of Indiana State, is just over an hour from Lucas Oil Stadium — the site of the 2026 Final Four. Indy has been very good to Duke over the years… could that be foreshadowing?

Duke vs. Kansas (Champions Classic) – New York, NY – 11/18/25

Another marquee showdown in the Champions Classic awaits at Madison Square Garden — better known to Duke fans as “Cameron North.” Eleven days after Kansas battles UNC in Chapel Hill, the Jayhawks meet the Blue Devils under the MSG lights. Kansas fans will travel, but history says Duke fans usually turn the Garden into a home court. This one has all the makings of a top-25 — maybe even top-10 — clash on the sport’s biggest stage.

Duke vs. Niagara – Durham, NC – 11/21/25

The “Brotherhood Run” begins as Greg Paulus, former Blue Devil point guard, brings his Niagara team to Cameron for a Friday night matchup.

Duke vs. Howard – Durham, NC – 11/23/25

Just two days later, Kenneth Blakeney and Howard come to Durham. Blakeney played at Duke in the early ’90s and was part of back-to-back championship teams in 1991 and 1992. Another Brotherhood connection, another layer of meaning.

Duke vs. Arkansas – Chicago, IL – 11/27/25

Thanksgiving Day basketball at the United Center. Scheyer vs. Calipari. Blue Devils vs. Razorbacks. This one will have plenty of national attention, even with the NFL dominating the holiday. Arkansas made a Sweet 16 run last March, and this game could easily be a top-25 showdown. A perfect break from turkey and football.

Duke vs. Florida – Durham, NC – 12/2/25

The defending national champions come to Cameron for the ACC/SEC Challenge. This could be a top-10 (maybe even top-5) clash, and the Crazies will be in peak form. Duke fans still sting from last year’s Final Four loss, when many brackets had Duke-Florida penciled in for the title game. Cameron will be rocking.

Duke at Michigan State – East Lansing, MI – 12/6/25

Four days later, another heavyweight. Duke’s battles with Tom Izzo’s Spartans have produced countless classics — from Champions Classic showdowns to the 2015 Final Four. Michigan State reached the Elite Eight last season, and this trip to East Lansing is a bucket-list road game for any Duke fan.

Duke vs. Lipscomb – Durham, NC – 12/16/25

A Tuesday night game against Lipscomb offers a slight breather before the holidays. Don’t sleep on the Bisons, though. They’re a well-coached program out of the Atlantic Sun that has been a consistent contender in their league and has made NCAA Tournament noise before. A good opportunity for Duke’s bench to shine.

Duke vs. Texas Tech – New York, NY – 12/20/25

Back to MSG for another monster non-conference tilt. Texas Tech is coming off an Elite Eight run and will bring plenty of toughness to New York. Depending on how things unfold in November, this could be a top-10 holiday showdown in front of a packed house.

Duke vs. Michigan – Washington, DC – 2/21/26

Just when you thought the non-conference slate was done, Duke drops a neutral-site clash with Michigan at Capital One Arena in February. A smart scheduling wrinkle — March Madness is only weeks away, and if Duke lands in the East side of the bracket and makes a run, they could be right back in DC for the regional. Michigan reached the Sweet 16 last year and brings in Yaxel Lendeborg, one of the nation’s top transfers, to face Duke’s prized recruit Cameron Boozer. Expect fireworks.

Final Thoughts

No matter how the ACC shakes out, Jon Scheyer has guaranteed his team will be battle-tested. Between exhibitions against elite programs, heavyweight neutral-site games, and emotional Brotherhood matchups, Duke’s 2025–26 out-of-conference schedule is loaded.

The road to the Final Four goes through Indianapolis — a city that has treated the Blue Devils well before. If Scheyer’s squad can survive this gauntlet, they’ll enter March not just tested, but battle-tested, and ready to chase banner number six.
